On June 10th at 6 PM we hope you will join us as we showcase four documentaries that highlight national issues that affect our tenants and staff, including a discussion and first look at "Second Responders", a documentary by filmmaker and HousingPlus resident Myrta Vida.
Myrta Vida graduated from the New York Film Academy (NYFA) in 2020 with a conservatory in screenwriting where she now works part-time as a teaching assistant. Myrta, while at NYFA, also met Julissa Delacruz who is her producer on "Second Responders"--a an important short documentary made by these two women at the height Covid-19 crisis last year. The film sets out to tell the story of staff working at St. John's Episcopal Hospital--the hospital where New York City had its first reported case of COVID-19. We are excited to share with you a sneak peek of HousingPlus Movie Night. America to Me, directed by Steve James--who you might know from his academy award-winning film Hoop Dreams--is a 10 part docuseries on the impact race, equity, culture, and privilege have on the education of young people in America. On June 10th you will see a short segment from America to Me when you'll see the story of Ke'Shawn, a high school junior, navigating school while his family loses their home.
