Veterans

HousingPlus is the largest provider of permanent supportive housing for female veterans in New York City, who often face myriad challenges to life stability, such as unemployment, disability, and post-traumatic stress due to their military service and sexual trauma.

In 2011, we launched the first housing program exclusively serving female veterans. At the time, these women were being sent to facilities designed for and populated by male veterans. Our program successfully addressed this gap for veteran women, offering them permanent housing and the services needed to address PTSD and other trauma resulting from their military service.

Today, HousingPlus operates three permanent housing programs serving female veterans and their families. Each site offers a host of supportive services to help women build and maintain stability and self-sufficiency, including career-building and educational support services and several wraparound supports (e.g. counseling, case management, and more). Currently, we serve 69 female veterans across our three sites, including 22 mothers with a total of 33 children.
